  • Children 1 to 3 years. 15mg
  • Children 4 to 8 years. 25mg
  • Children 9-13 years. 45mg
  • Teens 14-18 years. Boys-75mg Girls-65mg
  • Adults. Men-90mg Women-75mg
  • Pregnant Teens. 80mg
  • Pregnant Women. 85mg
  • Breastfeeding Teens. 115mg
  • Breastfeeding Women. 120mg

There is a wide variety of foods that contain vitamin C. Fruits and vegetables are among the best sources. Some examples are Citrus fruits such as oranges and grapefruit, as well as kiwis. Other sources include broccoli, strawberries, and baked potatoes.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a nutrient that is found in some foods and can be absorbed through the skin when in direct contact with the sun. It is used by the immune system to fight off any invading bacteria and viruses.

Getting enough vitamin D in your diet is important because you could be at risk of vitamin D deficiency. The NIH recommends that you get these amounts of vitamin D on a daily basis in International Units (IU).

  • Teens 14 to 18 years. 600 IU
  • Adults 19 to 70 years. 600 IU
  • Adults 71 years and older. 800 IU
  • Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women. 600 IU

There are many foods that naturally contain vitamin D. Some examples of foods with vitamin D are fatty fish, beef liver, cheese, fortified cereals, and milk.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that is commonly found in foods. When in the body, it serves as an antioxidant, by help protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals. The body also uses vitamin E to boost the immune system so it can better fight off invading viruses and bacteria. It also helps widen blood vessels and keep blood from clotting.

The NIH gives these recommended amounts of vitamin E intake per day in milligrams (mg).

  • Birth to 6 months. 4mg
  • Infants 7 to 12 months. 5mg
  • Children 1 to 3 years. 6mg
  • Children 4 to 8 years. 7mg
  • Children 9 to 13 years. 11mg
  • Teens 14 to 18 years. 15mg
  • Adults. 15mg
  • Pregnant Women. 15mg
  • Breastfeeding Women. 19mg

There are many foods that vitamin E is naturally found in. Some of these include nuts, green vegetables, and vegetable oils.
